Theresa Rose Designs – September Birthstone Jewelry

Sapphire is the birthstone for September. The name sapphire is derived from the Latin word ““saphirus” and the Greek word “sapheiros,” both meaning blue.

This stone signifies truth and purity. It is said that Sapphire protects the wearer from evil and envy. It was once thought to guard against evil and poisoning. Many believed that a poisonous snake would die if placed inside a container made of sapphire.

Because of its beautiful blue hues, it has been considered as a heavenly symbol which is why it is associated with purity. It was worn by priests during the Middle Ages as a talisman against impure thoughts and temptation.
